We have just opened a new company in Colorado and are setting up the offices before the employees arrive. Can you please tell us about what kind of labor law posters we need to have in our offices in order to be compliant with the state and federal laws?

Sure. There are state and federal labor law posting requirements that require employees to post notifications in accordance with state law and notifications in accordance with federal law. Here are the Colorado State Posting Requirements that you will have to comply with:

Workers Compensation (Parts 1 and 2)

Discrimination Notice

PayDay Notice

Unemployment Insurance

Minimum Wage Poster

There are also federal labor law posting requirements that you will have to comply with. Those requirements are as follows:

New 2007 Federal Minimum Wage

USERRA – Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act

Equal Employment Opportunity is the Law

Employee Polygraph Protection Act

Family and Medical Leave Act

OSHA – Job Safety & Health Protection

IRS Withholding Notice

PayDay Notice

Anti-Discrimination Notice

Keep in mind that as an employer, you are legally responsible for making sure that your labor law posters are up to date and reflect the most recent Acts and laws on a federal and state level. Because the federal minimum wage was changed in the summer of 2007, you must also change your federal minimum wage notifications. As such, you will want to make sure that you have the most recent poster available.

Also, it is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that the posters are in the workplace in an area that is clearly accessible to all employees, such as in an employee break room. If these posters are removed or damaged, the employer must replace them immediately. www.laborlawcenter.com is one resource for finding posters. You can either get one poster for the state laws and one for the federal laws, or you can get one poster that contains both laws.  CB
