We have just opened a branch of our company in Alabama. Can you please explain what the labor law posting requirements are for Alabama?
Sure. There are federal posting requirements and Alabama state posting requirements that both differ according to what notices the government requires you to post. First, you should know what is expected of you when it comes to displaying posters in your workplace. Here are some basic things that you need to be aware of:
- The labor law posters should be up to date with the latest changes in Acts and other regulations.
- You should display the posters in a place that is visible for all employees to see easily and on a regular basis. Often, this place is the break room. You may also update your employees with regular memos.
- If a poster is removed, you must replace is promptly.
- If a poster is damaged, you must either repair it or replace it promptly.
- It is important that you have the appropriate federal posters as well as the appropriate state posters.
Here are the Alabama state posting requirements that you will need to follow:
- Workers’ Compensation
- Workers’ Compensation Fraud Notice
- Child Labor
- Unemployment Insurance
Here are the federal posting requirements that you will need to follow:
- USERRA – Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act
- IRS Withholding Notice
- Payday Notice
- Anti-Discrimination Notice
- Equal Employment Opportunity is the Law
- Federal Minimum Wage
- Employee Polygraph Protection Act
- Family and Medical Leave Act
- OSHA – Job Safety & Health Protection
In order to meet the poster requirements for your posters, it is important that you post both the state and the federal posters. You can find the Alabama and federal notices on the same poster, or you can purchase both posters separately. The Alabama Complete Labor Law Poster contains all State, Federal and OSHA posting requirements and is available at www.laborlawcenter.com. CB
