When does the Missouri minimum wage change?

The Missouri minimum wage will increase from $6.50 to $6.75 on January 1, 2008. That’s an increase of 25 cents per hour.

Colorado, Massachusetts, California, and Oregon are among the states that will be increasing their minimum wage on January 1, 2008. At least 14 states will be doing so. Among them, the lowest rate will be that of New Mexico, with a new rate of  $6.50 an hour. However, New Mexico’s increase is the largest, since the 2007 minimunm wage in the state was $5.15 per hour.

In 2008, highest minimum wage will be in Washington State, at $8.07 per hour. Colorado’s hourly rate will be $7.02.

Other states with increases slated for the new year include:

Arizona                         $6.75                $6.90

California
                       $7.50                $8.00

Delaware
                       $6.65                $7.15

Montana
                        $6.15                $6.25

New Mexico
                   $5.15                $6.50

Florida
                           $6.65                $6.79

Iowa
                              $6.20                $7.25

Massachusetts
              $7.50                $8.00

Ohio
                              $6.85                $7.00

Oregon
                          $7.80                $7.95

Vermont                        $7.53                $7.68Still more states are raising the minimum wage rates on July 1 of 2008. These include Illinois, West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

Some of the states link their minimum wage rates to the federal rate. The federal rate (which will be $6.55 in 2008) increases on July 24, 2008, so these states change on July 24 as well.

Among those states are Utah, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Oklahoma, North and South Dakota, Virginia, Nebraska, and Texas.

Washington, D.C. pegs its rate at $1 an hour more than the federal rate. So in July its minimum wage will be $7.55 an hour.

Every change in the minimum wage requires an updating of the labor law poster. The new 2008 posters should be displayed in a prominent location. Employers who fail to update their posters could face a fine. Popular locations visible to employees include the break room and sites near the time clock.
