I am new to MI and I am working part-time (hourly) for a doctor. Is it legal for him to schedule me for less than a 4 hour work shift?

Yes, this is legal. Michigan, like most states, does not set any limits on the minimum shift length. A Michigan employer could legitimately schedule a worker for a shift that was 1 hour – or even shorter, under the law.

The assumption is that if a worker finds the short shifts intolerable, he or she will find employment elsewhere.
