Is this legal in Minnesota? I do not get any other breaks and I do not have time to heat up a lunch in the microwave and eat in 15 minutes. I have even offered to take a half hour without pay and they said no. I do not get any other breaks except the 15 minutes.
Minnesota law only specifies that employees receive sufficient unpaid time to eat a meal, when working 8 hours or more. There is no provision under the law that employees must have enough time to prepare a hot meal, even if they microwave it. You can double check with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, but chances are that they will approve this. (Under federal law, you must be paid for breaks less than 20 minutes. You need not be paid for breaks that are more than 20 minutes.)
