We have an employee who gave a controlled prescription medication to another employee who turned it into HR. The employee told us they have a prescription for the drug. Are we within our rights to request the documentation or doctors note stating that this was his?
Yes, but that’s the least of your problems. It sounds like “Tom” gave “Jerry”, a coworker, a controlled drug such as Valium. Even if Tom has a legitimate prescription for Valium, it’s against the law for him to give it to Jerry. That’s distributing a controlled drug. Tom should be terminated for illegal conduct at work. It’s really irrelevant whether Tom got the drug legally or not.
