Wasn’t the state of Michigan supposed to start being non-smoking in restaurants in August? If so, when?

While it is probable that Michigan will pass a workplace smoking ban that includes restaurants and bars in the near future, it has not done so yet.

In 2008, both the Michigan House and Senate passed non-smoking bills. However, the bills contained important differences, and the legislature adjourned without passing a compromise bill. The Senate bill would have banned smoking in virtually all workplaces, including restaurants, bars and casinos. The House version was similar, but made exceptions for some casinos, cigar bars and race tracks. The House version would also have permitted smoking if a collective bargaining agreement allowed it. Because the two could not agree, no law was enacted.
