I am setting up a practice in Kentucky, what is the law on how many days I must pay an employee for jury duty? I have set this in our P&P manual for 5 days, is this appropriate?

There is no requirement under federal or Kentucky law that employers must pay a worker for jury duty. Under federal law, an employee must be given unpaid time off work to serve on a jury, and the employee must not be penalized for the service. An employer cannot take disciplinary action or fire the worker, when the employee misses work for jury duty. However, paying the employee is entirely voluntary. The majority of employers do not pay workers for jury duty, and paying for 5 days of jury duty is very generous.
