Is it legal for a employer to ask employees to take a cut in pay (salaried employees) and require that they work the same hours? I am located in Georgia.
It is legal for an employer in any state to cut a salaried employees pay, and require the employees to work the same hours. This employer is being polite by asking the employees — there is really no choice. Many, many employers are implementing such measures during the current recession. The alternative is to lay off salaried employees. Many employers would prefer to give everyone a 10% reduction in pay, than lay off 1 in 10 employees.
