This year Independence Day 7/4 falls on Saturday. Shall company give a holiday on 7/3 (Fri) or 7/6 (Mon) to employees?
This is a matter of company policy, but the best practice for employers who are closed on Saturday and Sunday would be to give workers a paid holiday on Friday, July 3.
If the holiday fell on a Sunday, the best practice would be to give workers a holiday on Monday.
There is no state or federal law that requires this, but that is how most employers handle it.

What would you recommend if our customers are open on Friday July 3rd and are regularly serviced on Fridays?

Hi Bonnie!
This is a matter of company policy. It is also not a unique problem — every few years Christmas falls on a weekend. So it might be good to check what your company has done in the past.
There are several choices. You could have employees work their usual schedule and be paid for one extra day, as holiday pay. But that will increase your payroll by 20% that week.
Another option would be closing on Friday or Monday and letting your customers know in advance.
Another option would be to simply give each employee one extra day off that week, with pay. Some employees might have Tuesday off while others have Thursday off. This gives everyone a “holiday” and still permits you to operate 5 or 7 days per week. This is the option that hospitals and hotels use. HTH, and thanks for reading the blogs!~ Caitlin
