Hi –
We are a sub-contractor doing some work on the L.A. Federal Court House Building in Los Angeles… My question is that we have been asked to work our crew #4- 10 hour day’s instead of #5- 8 hour day’s…..40 hours for the week either way, do we need to pay any overtime?

The good news is that you do not have to pay overtime.

California law requires employers to pay overtime to workers when they work more than 8 hours per day. However, a special exception applies when employees work four 10-hour days. In that case, the employer can pay overtime after 10 hours per day.
