One of my employees won’t vote in elections because she thinks that if she registers she will be put on jury duty. Is this so?

In many states and counties, jurors are drawn from both lists of registered voters and lists of licensed drivers. In most areas, registering to vote will not increase an individuals chances of being called for jury duty as long as the names on both drivers license and voter registration are exactly the same.

Once a person has a drivers license or is registered to vote, actually casting a ballot does not change the chances of being called for jury duty. In most areas, a person can only be called for jury duty once per year maximum, and serves for just one trial. So the positives of voting far outweigh the negatives.

However, we will say that this is the employees personal business and how she votes — or even whether she votes — is really not any of your concern, as an employer.
