Is there a law that requires the company to pay their employees if the company closes their doors due to inclement weather?

Employers are required to pay exempt employees when the business is closed for a day or a few days, but not hourly employees. Under the federal FLSA, a salaried exempt employee must be paid for the entire work week, if he or she does any work at all during the week, and is ready, willing and able to work the entire week.

However, hourly employees need be paid only for the hours that they actually work.

If the business is closed for the entire payroll week (as many were after Katrina) employers need not pay even the exempt employees for that week, as long as they do no work during the payroll week.
