Florida Dismissal Letter

We recently terminated an employee during her initial 90 day work period here in Florida. Am I required to provide a termination letter to her? She was not operating under ANY written contract. She threatened us with “I will contact the state so they can contact you, since you are refusing to provide me the termination letter. And you can then explain to them why. Also the social security needs that letter. That letter cannot be denied to me.”

Is this factual that I must provide a termination letter for either the state or social security?

Please help ASAP.

There is no law that a Florida company must provide a termination letter to ex-employees. Nor is that letter required by any state or federal agency — including Social Security. (At least one state does require that employers furnish workers with termination letters — Missouri, if memory serves. But there is no such law in Florida.)

You are completely justified in ignoring this employee. She sounds a little unbalanced, anyway.
