Is it possible that an employee is hourly and exempt?

No, it is not possible for an hourly employee to be exempt under federal law. The first requirement to be an exempt employee is that the employee must be paid the same salary every week, regardless of how many hours the employee works. An hourly employee is never exempt under the federal FLSA, or Fair Labor Standards Act.

Hourly employees are always entitled to overtime.
