Is a Staff Accountant with a degree automatically Exempt?

Under federal law, exempt or non-exempt status is determined by the employees primary duties, not by education or title alone. Most staff accountants are exempt Administrative or Professional employees based on their job duties. However, an employee with the titleĀ  of Staff Accountant who made few or no business decisions in the course of his or her duties, might very well be a non-exempt employee.
