Are lunch periods mandatory in Texas? If so, what is the minimum amount of time for lunch?

In most industries, no, there is no Texas or federal law that you as an employer must give workers a lunch break or lunch period. This is a matter of company policy in Texas, not state law. Most employers give an unpaid meal break of 20 to 60 minutes to workers, because it improves their productivity. However, in some industries this is inconvenient.

Under the federal minimum wage law, the FLSA, an employee must be paid for any breaks shorter than 20 minutes. So a 20-minute meal break can be unpaid. A 15-minute meal break must be paid.
