What are the laws if an employee in Alabama works more than 7.5 hours..do we owe them a 30min lunch?

Alabama does not have any state law requiring employers to provide any paid or unpaid breaks. However, in the interest of employee welfare & morale, many employers do provide some breaks.

If you do provide a break, remember that a break lasting 20 minutes or less should not be deducted from the employee’s compensated work time. Breaks lasting 30 minutes or longer may be unpaid, but only if the employee is completely relieved of all work responsibilities during the break period.
