Ergonomic Keyboard

We have an employee who is requesting an ergonomic keyboard.

Do we need to supply this employee with this?

Thank you.

If the employee has a disability you may be required to provide a ergonomic keyboard. It appears that an ergonomic keyboard is a reasonable accommodation.  If the employee is not disabled, a key factor to consider is, the accommodation my cost very little and prevent future claims for FMLA, workers compensation etc.

In either case, you may want to consider doing an analysis of the job this employee performs and identify essential functions. You may also want to consider requesting the employee to provide you with information regarding the need for the request, either verbally or written by a physician.
