Call out reason

As the HR specialist I received a call from an employee stating that she would not be in today because she is “have trouble with my sinuses”. When asked by a Senior Manager (not the employees direct Supervisor – but her Supervisors boss) why she has called out. I replied that the employee said she is having trouble with her sinuses. Is this a HIPPA violation?

No this was not a HIPPA¬†violation. Medical information can be provided to individuals with a legitimate need to know. However, managers, supervisors and HR personal are not allowed to share information regarding an employees medical condition if it is shared as “gossip”.
