Is there a required amount to be considered salaried?

How do you exempt a salried employee? Is there an amount that the employee must make in order to be considered exempt from overtime?

The amount of money an employee makes does not determine if the employee is hourly, non-exempt or exempt. Jobs titles such as executive, administrative, professional, outside sales employees and certain computer employees are considered exempt. To qualify for exempt status employees generally must meet certain tests regarding their job duties and be paid on a salary basis at not less than $455 per week. Job tiles and salary do not determine exempt status. In order to qualify for exempt status specific job duties and salary must meet all the requirements of the Department’s regulations.
