Letter Of Termination

Does South Carolina required to give a letter of termination?

There is neither a federal nor South Carolina state law requiring employers to furnish employees with termination letters. South Carolina, like most states, is an at-will employment state, meaning that an employer may terminate an employee without cause. However, terminating an employee based on protected characteristics such as race, color, religion, sex, age or citizenship status; for exercising federal rights such as those allowed under the Family and Medical Leave Act and National Labor Relations Act; as retaliation for employees filing for worker’s compensation; or as retaliation for employees filing wage and hour complaints may constitute wrongful termination.
