Extend Probation and Change Hours

Can HR change extend 90 days probation for 45 days and convert employees’ status from FT to PT based upon unsatisfactory work performance and violation of company policy?

Unless an employment contract or collective bargaining agreement states otherwise, employers are able to extend an employee’s probationary period and/or change their assigned hours/schedule as deemed suitable.

It’s very common for an employee’s probationary period to be extended due to poor work performance. However, many companies consider the probationary period to be set and will terminate an employee who doesn’t meet company standards.

Again, absent an agreement stating otherwise, it’s completely at the employer’s discretion.
