Weekend Holiday

What is the standard practice with Christmas Eve and Christmas falling on Saturday & Sunday? Both days are paid holidays for our company. Do we close the office on Friday & Monday or on just Monday?

Whether to close the office either Friday or Monday or both is ultimately up to you. It’s common practice to close the office on Friday if a holiday falls on a Saturday or on Monday if the holiday falls on a Sunday. Since you provide both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off, it would be generous of you to provide both Friday and Monday off. But, it’s probably more common to just provide the Monday off.

Also, do you provide both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day off? If so, whatever you decide for the Christmas weekend should be consistent for other weekend holidays as well.

Keep in mind that employees appreciate good benefits. If you can afford to close the office for both Friday(s) and Monday(s) with minimal interruptions to business operations then consider doing so. It’ll be a nice benefit for employees.
