Observance of Christmas

Being that Christmas falls on a Sunday this year is it customary for companies that work a Monday thru Friday work week to give their employees an observance day on the Monday after?

It’s common for employers to provide employees a day of observance for holidays that fall on non-work days. So, yes, it’s customary for employers to provide the Monday after Christmas off.

It’s worth noting that private employers are not required to observe holidays. So, closing a business in observance of a holiday is at the discretion of the employer.

Some employers are not providing any additional days off this year since Christmas Eve and Christmas fall on the weekend. But, if an employer can afford closing the business for one day then they should do so. It’s a great benefit to employees.
